About The Event
The play opens in the drawing room of Nawab Qalander Yaar Jung's Haveli. The Nawab Sahib is searching for his medallion, wanting to be in his finest attire, as he expects Haleem Ahmad Khan to visit and see his daughter, Rukhsana, for a possible marriage proposal.
Haleem has arrived with his friend Shaukat. Shaukat's love interest, Nikhat, is staying with her aunt, the wife of Nawab Sahib, in the same haveli. Haleem has promised to help Shaukat elope with Nikhat.
While asking for directions to the Nawab Sahib's haveli, the two friends meet Azzu, who tells them they're at the wrong place, since no Nawab Qalander resides in the area. Disappointed, they ask Azzu if he can suggest a nearby rest house for the night. Azzu, with a mischievous smile, points to the haveli and calls it the best rest house around.
Thus, Haleem and Shaukat enter the haveli believing it to be a rest house, mistaking Nawab Sahib for its owner.
What follows is a comedy of errors: mistaken identities, confused introductions of guests and host, and hidden motives lead to rib-tickling, hilarious situations, with the tension in Nawab Sahib's haveli building to near-catharsis.
The chaos is finally resolved with the arrival of Salim Ahmad Khan, Haleem's father. In his presence, the young lovers and the prospective couple reveal their true identities, the misunderstandings clear up, and the truth comes out.
The play ends on a happy note, with the lovers finding their true love and happiness.
