About The Event
Written & Directed by Debanshu Shekhar.
Synopsis: JINI is a contemporary play about loneliness, aging, and the fragile emotional bonds between parents and children in a rapidly changing world.
Set in Delhi, the play centres on Shastri, a sharp-tongued, fiercely independent man in THE LAST INNINGS of his life, who lives alone after his son and daughter-in-law move abroad. Guarded and resistant to help, Shastri keeps people at a distance, finding comfort in routines, old songs, and familiar silences.
A new presence gradually enters his life, subtly reshaping his everyday world and offering an unexpected sense of comfort and companionship. As relationships shift and the emotional distance between Shastri and his son widens, unspoken conflicts surface on both sides of the divide.
JINI reflects on modern isolation, emotional responsibility, and the human desire for companionship—especially when the house grows quiet.
Note: JINI (Chapter 3) is one of the plays from the "Anthology of four plays- THE LAST INNINGS" by Naatakwaale Theatre Company. The other three plays of this Anthology are U-TURN (Chapter 1). BHINDI (Chapter 2), and GANDH (Chapter 4). Each play in THE LAST INNINGS anthology can be watched independently, but we recommend our audience to watch all four. This will help to fully experience and understand the complete narrative.
