For the first time in Delhi theatre, The Takht Collective brings you an Indian adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey.
Set in 1970s India, the story unfolds inside a rigid mental institution where authority is absolute, individuality is suppressed, and fear maintains order. Into this controlled world arrives a rebellious outsider whose defiance disrupts the system and awakens something long buried within the patients—dignity, courage, and the desire for freedom. As tensions rise between control and resistance, the ward becomes a battleground of power dynamics, chaos, oppression, and revolt.
At its heart, this is not just a story of rebellion against authority, but of human connection and the unlikely friendship between a deaf and mute man and a volatile gambler that becomes the emotional spine of the narrative.
Inspired also by the iconic film adaptation One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the play explores how institutions can break the human spirit and how friendship can restore it.
In the end it asks a timeless question: what does it truly mean to be “sane” in a world that punishes those who refuse to conform?
