Palti (Somersault) - a Play in Kannada is a heartwarming tale that deals with grandparents, grandchildren and grief. Based on Mike Kenny`s `Walking on a tightrope`... this play looks at ways to hold grief lightly yet meaningfully. The play is translated to Kannada and adapted to the Colloquial Context.
Taata (Grandad) has been tasked with the heavy duty of talking about death to putti (his grand daughter). Through metaphor, cyclical prose and poetry, Kenny has been able to capture the process of grief children go through. The play stays true to a child’s perspective through repetitive questioning, magical thinking and sensing of emotional shifts in the household atmosphere. We hope through all of this, the play holds space and opens up safe ways to process heavy feelings for the little ones through art and storytelling.
