
“Panchhi” is an award-winning play that tells the story of lower-middle-class angst. Nitish, a struggling salesman and his long-suffering wife Shyama try to keep their creditors at bay while Nitish still wants to throw an anniversary party to impress his friends. The tragic-comic irony of life is captured perfectly with a set of characters that make you laugh and tug at your heart at the same time.
In 60 minutes, the play captures in a subtle way, the agony of economic deprivation and yet shows that life is not all pessimistic. There is always a ray of hope despite the circumstances.
The play has won 5 awards at the 13th International Theatre Festival at Bareilly! Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor in a Comic Role and second place for Best Director and Best Play.
This play has also stood amongst Top 3 plays of eNatyashodh, a One-Act Play competition, organized by Mumbai Theatre Guide and was awarded Special Jury.
