About The Event

PASHMINA

Hindi Drama | Tragedy | 75 Minutes | 12+

Rarely does theatre ask us not whose side we are on, but who we are. Pashmina, the Sanhita Manch Award-winning play, is that story, which has travelled through different cities and OTT platforms all over India and the world.

When the parents of a fallen Indian Army officer travel to Kashmir, they expect closure. Instead, an unexpected encounter with a Kashmiri shawl seller forces them to confront a truth that no newspaper headline or television debate can capture: on both sides of conflict are mothers who pray, fathers who mourn, children who dream, and lives forever altered by violence.

Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Kashmir Valley, Pashmina is an emotionally powerful drama about love, loss, forgiveness and our shared humanity. It gently peels away prejudice to reveal the invisible threads that bind us together, much like the exquisite handwoven shawl from which the play takes its name.

Pashmina has earned widespread critical acclaim for refusing simplistic narratives. Critics have praised its ability to transform one of India's most sensitive subjects into an intimate, deeply moving human story.

The play has been written by Mrinal Mathur, one of India's most prolific contemporary playwrights, whose acclaimed oeuvre of original plays has travelled across India and overseas, inviting audiences to question history, challenge assumptions and discover their own truths.

Directed by Sajida Saji, Pashmina is brought to life with remarkable sensitivity and visual elegance. Eschewing spectacle in favour of emotional truth, her nuanced direction allows silence, music and performance to speak as eloquently as dialogue, creating a theatrical experience that lingers long after the final curtain. The play is presented by the dynamic team of Treasure Art Association, who have been at the forefront of innovative productions across India.

Come for Kashmir. Leave with a deeper understanding of humanity.
