Shreedevi Sunil of Talking Turtles Storytellers brings folktales to life as she sculpts a special performance for her audience.
The folktales she chooses to tell have served for ages as honored examples of wisdom and morals. In this story-time, she weaves her stories with creativity, imagination, humor, and music!
Listen to her adaptation of folktales from Persia and Native America! Accompanying her will be her host of puppets!
This storytelling is part of the Tale Train Storytelling Festival at Harkat.
About the Sunday Oasis:
Harkat Studios & Tram Arts Trust have come together with the dream to create an arts hub for children.
The bigger a city gets, the smaller the playing grounds get. Children are stuffed in front of television sets, which seldom makes for a good childhood story.
For long children have been missing their very own artistic playground and we have failed to provide a sustained arts engagement for children and the young in the city. A space where young people from the age of 6 months up to 16 years can come to immerse themselves in multiple art forms; watch, listen, participate, experience and observe. Interact with their natural raw surroundings, a safe space for them to question, feel and explore childish fantasies. A place that they know recognizes the human need for the arts, respects inherent creative expressions, cherishes individual & collective potentials. In a nutshell, an art oasis in the country’s commercial capital.
About Talkin Turtles:
Talking Turtles’ Storytellers, Mumbai was started by Shreedevi Sunil and Deepa Panchal in 2010. A major part of their work is with children, starting at the early age of 2 and upwards. They encourage children to explore the art of oral storytelling, using voice modulation, music, movement, puppets, storyboards, story cards.
They have also conducted teacher training workshops, wherein we encourage them to use stories in the classroom, to counter social issues and deliver lessons.
Their work here involves creating and adding to the story pool, selecting effective storytelling methodology, developing music and movement for a story.
About Harkat Studios
As an extension of the Harkat vision, we curate theatre, music, dance and art in our alternative performance space in Versova; one of the first in the city and cutting edge in its curatorial ambit. We like to synthesize the beauty of multiple art forms and push experimentation in form, while still keeping our work accessible to the larger public and not compromising on the political or artistic comment we strive to make. which oscillates between making films and curating experiences. Our body of work in the realm of our chosen medium of expression as a collective i.e. film, ranges from concept & experimental videos, short drama films and branded storytelling.
