About Play:

The play is a compilation of four stories written by the Indian Hindi Novelist and Short Story writer Geetanjali Shree. Her stories explore the themes of culture, identity and social issues. With a captivating language and strong expression these stories talk about subtleties of complex human emotions in their common lives. Stories like 'Private Life' 'March, Maa aur Sakura' brings a light on the complexities of woman's life in different aspects in diverse relationships. 'Pilaki Mane Fay' and 'Bheetraag' captures the soul of a common man, his survival in the society and deep rooted emotions. The play is a combination of all these stories to ivoke relatiblity and a better understanding of human expressions.


About Playwright: 

Geetanjali Shree, born on June 12, 1957, in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, is a celebrated Indian Hindi novelist and short-story writer best known for her Booker Prize–winning novel Tomb of Sand (originally Ret Samadhi). Her body of work, including notable titles such as Mai, Hamara Shahar Us Baras, Tirohit, and Khali Jagah, delves deeply into themes of identity, culture, and social issues, often weaving history with personal narratives. Her writings have been translated into several languages, including English, French, German, Serbian, and Korean. A member of the theatre group Vivadi, she has also adapted works by Rabindranath Tagore. Among her numerous accolades are the International Booker Prize (2022), Indu Sharma Katha Samman, Warwick Prize for Women in Translation, and the PEN Translates Award 2025 for her latest work Once Elephants Lived Here.


About Director:

Shilpi Marwaha is an Indian theatre practitioner and cinema actor. She is a theatre activist, and has acted in & directed many stage drama productions. She is also known for her social activism through street plays. Shilpi started her career as a theatre actor in her college days & never looked back since then. She has been practising theatre for more than a decade now & proved her metal as an actor, writer and director. Her theatre is socio-political in nature & so is her direction, which aims at creating awareness & change in the society. She has hundreds of plays as an actor & more than two dozens plays to her credit as director. She is known for her minimalistic style and portrayal of human emotions & situations raw & realistically on stage. She is founder of Sukhmanch Theatre Group & has also worked with Oscar winning director Ross Kaufman, National Award winning director T. V. Chandran, Praveen Morchhale, Srijit Mukherji, Anand L Rai, Meghna Gulzar, Abhay Deol, Mallika Sarabhai, Taapsee Pannu & Dhanush.
