Ramayana, as you know it, is recreated through the eyes of Ravana, who is traditionally the villain of the epic. In this play, the true face of Ravana is unveiled. He is a great devotee of Lord Shiva, the musician who created the ten raagas, and a doyen in playing veena instrument. Ravana reveals himself in an entirely new light giving birth to the impression that he is the real hero. It was Ravana who inspired Valmiki to write Ramayana, and Ravana followed the epic as it developed without influencing it.
Poulasthyana Pranaya Kathe was first played in 1987, and subsequently, a number of shows have been played all over Karnataka. Popular English and Kannada newspapers and magazines have rated it highly numerous times.
S V Krishna Sharma has written and directed the play. Famous music composer Padmacharan has scored the music, and Vidwan Shankar is the playback singer.
