
The debate on the issue of Development versus Social Justice is not only new but seems eternal too. It has involved political, economic, legal and moral angles. Naturally it has attracted the attention of talented novelists, playwrights, poets, public intellectuals etc.
Ram Ganesh Kamatham’s play ‘Project Strip’ is an absorbing attempt to portray the dilemma between a lopsided development and the plight of the people affected by it. The plot is made interesting by the choice of a fictitious island and the characters who don different roles. The playwright has been clever in not driving the story to the cliched turns but there is an underlayer of pathos and a good mixture of subtle humor to keep the audience always interested.
Archana Shyam, the versatile young director has done full justice to the Kannada version of the play both in extracting the best from the artistes and also in designing the stage. B Suresh’s apt translation has added to the success of the play
