Saiyaan Bhaye Kotwal is a timeless political satire by renowned playwright Basant Sabnis that hilariously exposes corruption, nepotism, and the absurdities of power.
The story unfolds in the kingdom of Suryapur, ruled by the utterly naive King Randheera. The actual gears of the state are run by his corrupt Prime Minister (Pradhan). When the old police chief (Kotwal) passes away , the honest and hard-working Constable (Havaldar) expects a well-deserved promotion after 10 years of service. He has even promised his lover, Mainavati—a beautiful dancer—that they will marry as soon as he gets the post.
However, nepotism strikes when the corrupt Pradhan bypasses the rules to plant his own foolish and incompetent brother-in-law, Appa Saheb (Lappu Jhanna), as the new Kotwal. Refusing to back down, the clever Havaldar hatches a brilliant scheme with his fellow Constable (Sipahi) and Mainavati.
