About The Event
In the wrong place at the wrong time.
Hans Christian Ostro, a Norwegian theatre artist and trekker, became one of the six foreign hostages whose abduction marked a new era in the history of the Kashmir conflict in the 1990’s.
“HAMSA” uses Hans and his journey to construct a story set between fantasy and history. There are the voices of people he may have met on his road through the valley; there is a storyteller, speaking in fables of a landscape that seems eerily familiar; to Hans’s mother, retracing her son’s path in search of a missing piece that might restore her memory of him. Together, they create a narrative of innocence and loss, about the tragedy of one man being a metaphor for the tragedy of an entire region. In speaking of Hans and in speaking of Kashmir, it seeks to speak of the mysterious way in which grief and beauty bind us all.
