Mahesh Dattani 's play Tara has a powerful storyline and deals with the pertinent & potent questions of medical ethics, personal relationships & hypocrisy which exists in Indian families. It also highlights the issue of gender discrimination & aspects that are two sides of the same coin. The play questions the role of a society that treats the children of the same womb in two different ways.
The play is based on the memories of Dan. Dan is a struggling playwright who in the course of writing a play that highlights the tragedy in his twin sister's life. Tara & Chandan were born conjoined twins and were separated surgically as infants. Relationship of their parents Bharti & Patel has been severely affected by this predicament of their children. Exuberant, passionate Tara is struggling against odds that nature has created for her. Dan tries to present in the form of a play the various aspects of her struggle. Another character of the play, Roopa is an interesting case study in child psychology.
Brought to Hindi stage by ace director Arvind Gaur, this play with its beautifully designed music by Dr. Sangeeta Gaur, will defiantly leave the audience with thoughts & questions which are otherwise ignored by society.
