THE TEMPEST BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
A storm is coming. Step into the world of The Tempest.
Often regarded as Shakespeare`s final play, The Tempest tells the story of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who is exiled to a mysterious island with his daughter, Miranda. Years later, he conjures a storm that brings his old enemies to the island, setting in motion a tale of power, betrayal, love, revenge, and ultimately, forgiveness.
This production presents Shakespeare`s timeless play with a fresh and imaginative approach, where the performers bring the island and its inhabitants vividly to life through their collective storytelling. The focus remains on the actors, the language, and the shared imagination between performers and audience.
A unique feature of this interpretation is Ariel, portrayed by multiple actors as a single ever-present spirit, while Caliban is shared between two performers, offering a distinctive perspective on one of Shakespeare`s most complex characters.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
The production is directed by Chris Walters, a London-based theatre practitioner, actor, and educator whose career spans over four decades. He has worked extensively as a director, performer, and teacher, leading workshops and productions with actors across the world.
FROM WORKSHOP TO STAGE
This performance is the culmination of a month-long theatre workshop led by Chris Walters in Lucknow. Over the course of the programme, participants explored Shakespeare`s text through rehearsals, ensemble work, voice, movement, and character development before bringing The Tempest to the stage.

Ehsaaz Foundation is a Lucknow-based arts and cultural organisation working across theatre, literature, cinema, and the performing arts. Through productions, workshops, and cultural initiatives, Ehsaaz creates opportunities for artists while bringing meaningful artistic experiences to local audiences.
This production is presented under The Stage School Project, the theatre education initiative of Ehsaaz Foundation, which connects emerging performers with experienced practitioners through intensive, production-based training.
