About The Event
Tu Kya Hai"
A biting satire on the lives of millions who leave the comfort of home chasing the elusive dream of becoming a performance artist. Their journeys are marked by a series of conflicts—some painful, most absurd—until the line between tragedy and comedy begins to blur. Over time, these struggles stop hurting and start to amuse, as if life itself were a staged farce.
In this solo performance, acclaimed Hindi film actor Abhishek Banerjee turns the lens inward. He satirizes his own journey, exposing the fault lines of ambition, society, and self-worth with humour and brutal honesty. "Tu Kya Hai" is not just a question—it’s a mirror.
This one-man show unfolds in three evocative chapters from Abhishek’s life. In the first, we meet a typical middle-class Indian family—one that cannot fathom art beyond a hobby, and certainly not as a legitimate career. In the second, we are plunged into the chaotic, cruel, yet oddly comical life of Mumbai—India’s city of dreams, illusions, and auditions.
And finally, from the clash of familial expectation and urban absurdity, emerges the most profound thread: the internal conflict. A voice that whispers late at night, staring at a ceiling fan, “Tu kya hai?” (What are you?)
While standing in a never-ending audition line— “Tu kya hai?” Falling into the metaphorical potholes of city life — “Tu kya hai?”
Sipping bitter Americano in place of home-brewed chai — “Tu kya hai?”
This question, deceptively simple, has ignited revolutions, sparked fights in Noida and Ghaziabad, and maybe even inspired the likes of Charles Darwin and Thomas Edison. Darwin might’ve heard it and uncovered evolution.
Edison, and a world was lit. Zuckerberg heard it, and the world got Facebook. Now, it comes to Abhishek. What will it create this time?
"Tu Kya Hai" features a voice—booming like Bigg Boss’s but emerging from within—the voice of Abhishek’s own restless mind. It challenges him, mocks him, and coaxes stories and confessions from him.
The stage becomes a living canvas: costumes, makeup, and props transform him into a dozen characters from every corner of society. He becomes each one of them, and in doing so, takes the audience deep into the chaotic, colourful, and comedic world of his making.A show that asks one question again and again — “Tu kya hai?”
And dares you to answer
