About The Event
This 9th edition of Short + Sweet South India is a collaborative effort by Prakriti Foundation and The Blu Lotus Foundation, in association with the Alliance Française of Madras and SPI Edge.
Each show comprises 9-10 ten-minute plays, with an interval.
1. Pakathaathu Punjabi
Director: Threka ; Writer: Deeptha Pattabiraman
Cast: Krishnapriya (Panjakam), Gomathi Sankar (Kudukudupukaran)
Synopsis: This play unfolds as Kudukudupukaran`s humorous endeavors to impress Mami result in a cascade of comical conversations, and unexpected turns.
2. Saman
Director: Santhosh Sellam; Writer: Sella Sellam
Cast: Virupakshi Angadi, Suriya, Adithyan, Chandru, Deva, Vinoth, Soorya, Vijay, Dhivya, Murugan, Ayyappan, Sathya
Synopsis: A Writer thinks about various isms for equality which leads to Saman play on stage.
3. Tasmac
Director: Kalaichozhan ; Writer: R. Baskar
Cast: Baskar (Stephen), Prasanna (Venkatesh), Sugumar, Suko, Mahindran (Part of friends gang)
Synopsis: Despite Govt. Body running the tasmac which sells liquor, how can they take extra 10 RS over and above the MRP? It`s ridiculous isn`t it?
4. Naane Varugiren
Director: John Pradeep JL; Writer: Ishvar Krishnan
Cast: Malarkodi (Angel), Jaisurya (Jesus)
Synopsis: He is ready! To be born as the king and change the world! But father has other plans.
5. Madonna
Director: V Balakrishnan ; Writer: Shruti Parasuraman
Cast: Aparna Kumar (Woman)
Synopsis: Where men love ,they have no desire , where they desire they cannot love.
6. 13b Varuma??
Director: Abishek Srinivasan ; Writer: Abishek srinivasan & Jeeva Balachandar
Cast: Gunavanthan, Arogya raj, Rajan magesh, Varsha
Synopsis: The play is about humans and the discrimination they create and how it affects them. In the end what does it all cost?
7. Bus stop
Director: Muruganadam Selvaraj ; Writer: Philip Clay
Cast: Shoba Vishwanath (Malar), Rajbarath Balamurali (Guru)
Synopsis: A heartfelt tale of two unlikely strangers who befriend each other at a solitary bus stop, this story explores the journey of their relationship.
8. Not Tonight
Director: Naresh D Raj ; Writer: Niranjana Kannan
Cast: Dorothy Thakuria (Avni), Rajesh (Dev)
Synopsis: Dev, a debut director celebrating his premiere night, while his wife Avni is seen being distant and bothered. Will they sort it out tonight?
9. Kath.Ai
Director: Hari Mahavdevan ; Writer: Bala kumaran
Cast: Balaji Siva, Sai Prasanna, Loki, Naveen, Yuvaraj
Synopsis: This is a story about a theatre artist who is going to perform his last show to a nearby village. Before that he is doing a quick rehearsal in the train on the way to the show.
10. Namma Status Patheengala
Director: R Jayachandran ; Writer: R Jayachandran
Cast: Kamalesh, Roshini, Senthil kumar, Chandru, Ketan, Aravindh, Ankita, Karthick, Jaideep
Synopsis: Satires our digital behaviour and human sensitivity on a current train crash tragedy.
Short+Sweet Theatre is the biggest festival of ten-minute theatre in the world, which started in Australia in 2002, and is now held annually in 7 different countries across 30 cities, including Chennai.
