A legendary tale that traces a journey across kingdoms, civilisations, and within the self.
Zen Katha tells the extraordinary story of Bodhidharma, born a fragile Pallava prince in 5th-century India and discarded at birth, only to rise as the 28th Patriarch of Buddhism. His journey cuts across kingdoms and continents, shaped by love, power, violence, discipline, and spiritual awakening.
Written by the acclaimed storyteller Partap Sharma, the play travels from the ancient kingdom of Kanchipuram to imperial China, bringing alive Bodhidharma’s encounters with gurus, warriors, monks, and emperors, including his legendary confrontation with the formidable Chinese Emperor Wu Ti of the Liang dynasty.
Directed by Lillete Dubey, Zen Katha blends theatre with martial arts, romance, humour, and striking visuals. With a stellar cast ensemble, it captures the journey of an Indian prince who went on to shape the Zen philosophy and give rise to the martial arts of Kung Fu and Tai Chi, not as distant history, but as a bold, high-energy story of transformation.
