Introducing the Indian Chess League (ICL)
After months of building RookTook as India’s home for competitive chess, we are proud to announce the launch of the Indian Chess League (ICL) - India’s first large-scale team-based chess league that brings the thrill of esports into the world’s oldest strategy game.
About ICL:
ICL is an online-to-offline league where players start their journey with online matches and progress all the way to state representation and a live stadium finale. Unlike traditional tournaments, ICL focuses on team-based progression - you don’t just play for yourself, you play to take your city, state and national forward.
ICL offers a prize pool of Rs 2.3 CR and the deadline to register is on or before 30th October 2025.
League Format:
Stage 1: City Battles – Open online qualifiers where players form 5-member teams to represent their city.
Stage 2: State Clashes – Top teams from each city move forward to represent their state.
Stage 3: Grand Finale – The best state teams face off in an electrifying offline finale at a major stadium.
Gameplay:
Fast-paced online rapid matches hosted on the RookTook platform.
Swiss format ensures every board matters.
Points earned at individual levels contribute to the team’s overall score.
Registration Options:
Team Registration: Form your own 5-player team and enter directly.
Individual Registration: Sign up solo if you don’t yet have a team. You’ll have until the registration deadline to form one and if you can’t, we’ll pair you with other solo players to create a competitive team.

1st Team: Rs 1 CR
2nd Team Rs 50 Lakhs
3rd Team: Rs 30 Lakhs
Top 4-8 Teams: Rs 10 Lakhs Each
Basic Requirements:
Open to players of all ages.
All participants must have a RookTook account to play official ICL matches.
Teams consist of 5 members (or get paired if you register individually).
How to Join:
1. Pay the Entry Fee on BookMyShow to secure your spot. (You can register individually and add your team before the deadline).
2. Register on RookTook.com (or app: https://m.rooktook.com/b5HNjKGhWUb).
3. We will communicate details about ICL to your registered email.
Note: If registering individually, either form your team before the deadline or get auto-matched with others.
Additional Notes:
Organizers may adjust rules, formats, or schedules based on participation.
All matches are monitored for fair play with advanced anti-cheating measures.
Streaming/recording allowed with prior approval.
This is more than a tournament.
