Widely known as the Hill of Gods or Hill of Lord Shiva, Devagiri, Daulatabad is a 14th century fort city, situated near the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. It is recognized as one of the seven of wonders of Maharashtra Tourism.
Originally built in 12th century, Daulatabad Fort was one of the landmarks for caravan routes for many years. In the early 14th century, it became the blooming capital of Tughlaq Dynasty. Infamous for shifting the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad and bac again, Muhammad bin Tughluq was quite fond of the fort and moved his entire people to the fort until it was abandoned because of water scarcity.
One of interesting features of the fort is that it has only one gate for entry and exit, which is quite unlikely for a fort. It also features an interesting design, with unparallel gates, curvy walls and false doors.
The fort is well-connected by roads and can be accessed through various transport means. The closest railway station is Aurangabad railway station.
