Purana Qila is one of the ancient forts of the Indian capital, Delhi. It is an enthralling historical site beholding the majestic history of Delhi. Premises of the Purana Qila is almost in a five-mile area and there are three gates to enter the fort. Purana Qila acquires an important place in the itinerary of travelers exploring the ruling past of Delhi. During the Partition of India, in August 1947 the Purana Qila along with the neighboring Humayun`s Tomb became the site for refugee camps for Muslims migrating to newly founded Pakistan.

Purana Qila main attractions:
The walls of Purana Qila have three gates - the Humayun Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza (The forbidden gate) and Bara Darwaza. The notable attractions are the Sher Mandal- Humayun`s Library and the Qila-i-kuhna Mosque within the fort. You can explore the fort till evening and take a boat ride in the adjacent lake.

Best time to visit the Purana Qila:
October to March is the idyllic time to plan a visit here and try to avoid coming here during the scorching days of summers. Winters and monsoons in Delhi are quite pleasant and thus are the best seasons to explore Purana Qila.

Purana Qila timings:
The Purana Qila is open to people all days from 7 am to 5 pm. For Indians, the entrance fee is Rs. 20 and for foreign nationalities, Rs. 200.

  • This monument is a Non Smoking zone.
  • Edibles are not allowed inside the monument.
  • Refund policy later for any transaction is not permitted as per the guidelines of the Archaeological Survey Of India so refund for any transaction under any circumstances won`t be possible.
