An Indian film actor, predominantly active in Tamil cinema, Abhishek Shankar made his debut in the 1995 critically acclaimed drama film Mogamul, in which he played the lead role alongside Archana Joglekar. He then went on to feature in the serial Kudumbam, and gained huge popularity for his role of Bhaskaran in the serial Kolangal. He became one of the most prominent television personalities by starring in many serials, the well-known ones being Malargal, Kollywood Court and Girija. He has been a part of several other movies such as Azhagaana Ponnuthan (2010), Pathinaaru (2011), Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014), Aambala (2015) and also the Malayalam film Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram (2014). He has also directed the 2010 Tamil movie Kathai starring Shaan Kumar and Nivedhitha. His 2017 venture includes the Tamil detective thriller film Thupparivaalan, under the direction of Mysskin, starring Vishal in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Prasanna, Andrea Jeremiah and Simran.
