Buddhadeb Dasgupta is a National Award-winning veteran Indian filmmaker who is primarily known for his work in Bengali films. He made his feature film directorial debut with the 1978 Bengali film Dooratwa and has since helmed several critically acclaimed films that have been screened around the world. Buddhadev is a two-time winner of the National Film Award for Best Director, for Uttara (2000) and Swapner Din (2008). The director has also been feted at prestigious international festivals like the Venice Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, and Istanbul International Film Festival, besides receiving multiple nominations at the Berlin International Film Festival and Chicago International Film Festival. Significant film credits include Phera (1988), Bagh Bahadur (1989), Lal Darja (1997), Kalpurush (2008), Janala (2011) and Tope (2017). Buddhadeb is also an accomplished poet and has published several volumes of poetry over the years. His 2019 film releases include Urojahaj.
