Chitra Palekar is an actress and writer who acted in and wrote numerous films from the inception of her career in 1982. Formerly married to veteran actor Amol Palekar, Chitra Palekar was always associated with alternate cinema. Mostly in the shadows, she assisted Amol Palekar on a number of his films and was associated with films like Kachchi Dhoop (1987), The Square Circle (1996), Kairee (1999), and Dhyasparva (2001), among others. She made her directorial debut almost at the age of 60 in 2006 with Maati Maay, which she also produced.
