Renowned music composer Gurukiran Shetty, best known as Gurukiran, has been a music enthusiast since his schooldays at the St Aloysius College Higher Primary School in the early 70s. While in college, he went on to become a part of an orchestra, where he sang and was also a keyboardist. Soon, in 1994, he started assisting well-known music director and lyricist V. Manohar.

After assisting V. Manohar, he soon made his debut as a composer in 1998 with the psychological romance A, which won him the Udaya Film Award for Best Music Director. In a career about two decades, Gurukiran, who is primarily associated with the Kannada film industry, composed the music of movies such as Chithra, Dhumm, Apthamitra, Jogi, Gandugali Kumara Rama, Satya In Love, Shankar IPS, Shankar IPS, Govindaya Namaha, Uppi 2, Aake, and Krishna S/O CM among many others.

In the meantime, the ace music composer has also made few appearances as an actor in movies such as Vaalee, Naya Barood, Aramane, Oriyardori Asal, and Rangam Style, playing supporting yet character roles. His other releases includes Amma I Love You and Kalidasa Kannada Meshtru.
