Born to Dorothy Ford, a homemaker, and former radio actress, and Christopher Ford was an advertising executive and a former actor, Harrison Ford is an American actor and producer. He attended a drama class in his senior year at college to overcome his shyness. In 1964, Ford traveled to Los Angeles to apply for the job of a radio voice-over. He ended up staying in California and eventually signed a $150 a week contract with Columbia Pictures` New Talent program, playing small roles in films. His first known appearance was a minor role as a bellhop in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966). He gained worldwide fame for his starring roles as Han Solo in the Star Wars film series and as the title character of Indiana Jones movie series.

While building a doorway in a studio one day, Ford was spotted by George Lucas who was casting for his sci-fi adventure movie Star Wars. This became one of the most successful films of all time and Ford`s role as the rash yet lovable rogue smuggler, Han Solo, set him on the path to super-stardom.
