Joe Swanberg is a film director, producer, writer, and actor who predominantly works in Hollywood. Swanberg is known for making mumblecore films, a subgenre that usually consists of low budget films that focus on naturalised acting and dialogue over plot. Swanberg is also credited with launching the careers of Lena Dunham, Greta Gerwig, and Mark Duplass. After making his directorial debut in 2005, he gained recognition with his work on films like Silver Bullets (2011), Drinking Buddies (2012), Happy Christmas (2014) and the Netflix series Easy (2016 - 2019). His 2020 releases include The Rental.
