A versatile artist, Kay Cannon is an American screenwriter, actress, and producer who is best known for writing the Pitch Perfect film series. Apart from writing, Cannon has also produced many TV series' like the popular sitcom New Girl (2012-14), and the Netflix series Girlboss (2017). An alumna of the Lewis University, Illinois, Cannon trained at the ImprovOlympic and ComedySports and one of her first jobs as a performer was at the ComedySports.
The director-writer-actor-producer, Cannon has also performed many sketch and improv for theatres at Boom Chicago in Amsterdam, The Second City, Chicago and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, Los Angeles, New York. It was during her time as a performer in Chicago that she met fellow actress, performer and comedian Tina Fey and they together created the NBC comedy, 30 Rock. For her brilliant work in the series, Cannon won the Winters Guild of America Award for Best Comedic Series thrice.
After her successful stint as a performer in theatre and improv, Cannon later moved to Los Angeles from New York City and she signed a deal with the 20th Century Fox and she worked as a co-executive producer for New Girl. It was in 2012 that she got her big break in the Hollywood film industry as she wrote her first film, Pitch Perfect. She later wrote for two other movies in the series - Pitch perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3. The 2018 film, Blockers is her maiden venture as a director. The English comedy-drama features John Cena, Ike Barinholtz, Leslie Mann and Kathryn Newton in important roles.
