The legendary fashion icon, Marilyn Monroe was an American actress and model who was considered to be the sex symbol during the 1950s. Famous for playing the iconic dumb blonde characters, Monroe was working in a factory when she met a photographer from the First Motion Picture Unit, which paved way for a career in pin-up modeling. Her successful stint as a model led her to win contracts with renowned production companies like Twentieth Century-Fox and Columbia Pictures. The actress who made her debut on the silver screen with Dangerous Years (1947), initially played mostly smaller roles in her films before eventually rising to fame with her leading roles in Niagra (1953), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955). Although she was a top-billed actress only for 10 years, her films grossed more than $200 million. After she became a star, her life was under constant scrutiny and she had to face several problems due to her depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Her illustrious came to an end with an untimely death in August 1962 because of barbiturates overdose.
