Perhaps best known for portraying Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson`s The Hobbit film trilogy and Dr. John Watson in the British crime drama Sherlock, Martin Freeman is an English actor. First appearing on-screen in 1997 on the TV series, The Bill (1984-2010), Freeman earned accolades for playing Tim Canterbury on the hit British mockumentary sitcom, The Office (2001-2003). He made his big screen debut with director Jamie Thraves` romantic-drama, The Low Down (2000). Over the years Freeman has acted in movies like Love Actually (2003), Shaun of the Dead (2004), The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Hot Fuzz (2007) and Wild Target (2010).
In 2012 Freeman played Bilbo Baggins in the epic adventure, The Hobbit. He won the Best Hero at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards and the Best Actor at the 18th Empire Awards. He reprised his role in the sequels- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). He continued acting in movies like The World`s End (2013), Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016), Carnage: Swallowing the Past (2017), Ghost Stories (2017) and Cargo (2017). Among his numerous accolades, he has an Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award and Empire Award to his name. Freeman played Dr. John Watson in the hit TV show Sherlock (2010- ), a modern day reimagination of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle`s literary character, Sherlock Holmes. He won a BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actor, 2011 and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for the Sherlock episode, A Study in Pink (2010). Freeman also played Lester Nygaard in the critically acclaimed dark comedy crime-drama TV series Fargo (2014- ), a show based on the Coen Brothers movie from 1996 of the same name. Freeman also starred in the 2016 crime-thriller TV series, StartUp. In 2016 Freeman played Everett K. Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe`s (MCU) Captain America: Civil War (2016). He will be seen reprising the character in the 2018 MCU movie,
Black Panther. His other releases include The Operative (2019), Ode to Joy (2019), A Christmas Carol (2020) and
