Noah Baumbach is an American writer, director and independent film-maker. New York born and bred, he is the son of novelist and film critic Jonathan Baumbach and Village Voice critic Georgia Brown. He graduated from Brooklyns Midwood High School and received his BA in English from Vassar College in 1991. Baumbach made his writing and directing debut at the age of 26 with Kincking and Screaming (1995), the film starred Josh Hamilton, Chris Eigeman and Carlos Jacott and premiered in 1995 at the New York Film Festival. He then write and directed Mr. Jealosy (1997) and went to co-write The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) with Wes Anderson. His film The Squid and the Whale (2005) was a semi-autobiographical comedy-drama about his childhood in Brooklyn. Baumbachs Greenberg (2010) was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. He then co-wrote and directed Frances Ha (2012).
