The creator of the Indian version of the Sherlocks, the popular detective TV series Karamchand (1985), Pankaj Parashar is a multiple award-winning India film and TV director. The alumnus of the prestigious FTII (Film and Television Institute of India), Pune where he pursued a Diploma in Film Direction & Screenplay Writing where he won a Gold Medalist, is noted for his frequent collaboration with the super talented and versatile actor Naseeruddin Shah; as a matter of fact, the veteran director is credited to be the first mainstream Bollywood film director to cast the then art films actor Naseeruddin Shah in a commercial film Jalwa (1987), which was also his maiden directorial venture.

Following the huge success of Jalwa, Pankaj Parashar added yet another super hit film to his credit as he directed ChaalBaaz (1989), which featured an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Rajinikanth, Sridevi, Anupam Kher and Sridevi. The movie was a running hit at the box office and also it garnered much critical appreciation. Post-1989, the director did not make any films until 1996 before eventually making his comeback with Rajkumar. His other notable directorial ventures include Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge (2002), Inteqam: The Perfect Game (2004), It Was Raining That Night (2005) and Banaras (2006).
