BIOGRAPHY

Mysore Srikantayya Umesh, better known by his screen name Umesh is a veteran Indian film actor, director, and producer who primarily works in Kannada cinema. Renowned for his unique style of dialogue delivery and brilliant comic timing, Umesh, in his illustrious career spanning over five decades has featured in more than 350 feature films. Having started his career at a very young age, he performed in several stage shows in school. He later got his first lead role in a feature film with Makkala Rajya (1960). Following his debut, Umesh did not have any release for 17 years, and he made his comeback with Katha Sangama (1977), which won his maiden Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Few of his other notable films include Kiladi Jodi (1978), Antha (1981), Simha Garjane (1983), Malaya Marutha (1986), Golmaal Radhakrishna (1990), Gauri Ganesha (1991), Time Bomb (1994), Shastri (2005), Seven O` Clock (2006), Venkata in Sankata (2007), Jackie (2010), Lucky (2012) and Sri Omkara Ayyappane (2016). S. Umesh donned the director`s hat for the first time for the Tamil movie, Idhu Unga Kudumbam (1989). Since then he has directed movies like Avane Nanna Ganda (1989), Sididedda Gandu (1990), Nambidre Nambi Bitre Bidi (1990), Baduku Jataka Bandi (1997), Agamya (2013) and 24 Karat (2014). In 2017 he directed B. R. Ravanappa, Sanchari Vijay, Yashaswini and S. Narayan in Hosa Anubhava.
