Savitri was an Indian film actress who starred in Telugu and Tamil films. Starring in over 250 movies for more than three decades, Savitri is known as the first female superstar of the South Indian film industry. Some of her notable films include Pathala Bhairavi (1951), Devadasu (1953),
Maya Bazaar (1957), Mangalya Balam (1959), Aradhana (1962), Devata (1965) and
Vichithra Dampathyam (1971).
For her performance in Chivaraku Migiledi (1960), she received the Rashtrapati Award. She also won the Nandi Awards in her directorial debut for Chinnari Papalu (1968), a Telugu drama film. Savitri passed away in December 1981.
