An Indian actress of Gujarati origin, Sujata Mehta has predominantly worked in Hindi and Gujarati film industry. Upon making her Bollywood debut in the 1987 film Pratighaat Pratighaat (1987) opposite Nana Patekar, the actress got instant recognition in the industry. The actress, then, appeared in Yateem (1988), which won the actress several accolades and awards for her impressive performance in the film. Since then, the actress has starred in quite a few films, including Pratigyabadh (1991), Tyagi (1992), Sadhna (1993), Watan (1994), Hulchul (1995), Jung (1996), Loha (1997), Aaj Ka Nanha Farishta (2000) and Deewarein (2003). She made her acting in Gujarati cinema with the film Chitkar (2018).

Alongside her film career, she has also appeared in TV series like Khandaan (1985) and Shrikant (1985-1986), Yeh Meri Life Hai (2006) and Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa (2006).
