About The Event
Gond Folk Painting is a vibrant tribal art form originating from the Gond communities of central India, particularly Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Maharashtra. Deeply rooted in nature, folklore, and indigenous beliefs, Gond art brings the world of forests, animals, birds, trees, and mythical beings to life through intricate patterns, rhythmic lines, and vivid colours. Traditionally made with natural pigments, the paintings are known for their dots, dashes, stripes, and finely detailed motifs that give each subject a sense of movement and vitality. About the Artist
Chhoti Tekam is a celebrated Gond artist from Madhya Pradesh, India, who transformed her deep connection to nature and a life of early hardship into a vibrant career in contemporary tribal art.
Born in Sonpuri and later relocating to Bhopal after marrying fellow artist Santosh Tekam, she worked as a domestic laborer before learning the intricacies of Gond painting under mentor Ram Singh Urveti. Drawing inspiration from the forests, flora, and fauna of her childhood especially deer and peacocks she developed a signature style defined by vivid color palettes and intricate patterns of dots and dashes.
Today, her work has been showcased through cultural institutions like the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav in Bhopal, earning her accolades such as the Women Achiever Award in 2017.
