About The Event
A celebration of Monsoon, Movement & the timeless beauty of Indian classical dance.
When the monsoon arrives, rivers come alive, flowing, transforming, creating and carrying stories with them. Natyatarangini 2 VARSHA, Dancing Rivers brings this spirit of the monsoon to the stage through an evocative coming together of two oldest and magnificent Indian classical dance traditions,BHARATNATYAM and ODISSI.
Curated by SAGA Celebrations, this is more than a classical dance performance. It is an immersive artistic experience where dance, music, rhythm and the poetry of nature come together to explore the many moods of VARSHA, the monsoon.
At the heart of this experience are two accomplished performers.
Dr Srishti Budhori Sharma
A passionate practitioner and exponent of Bharatanatyam, Dr Srishti Budhori Sharma brings together the discipline, precision and expressive depth of this ancient classical tradition. Her artistry moves seamlessly between nritta, the pure language of rhythm and movement and abhinaya, the deeply expressive art of storytelling through the eyes, face and body.
Through her performance, audiences will experience the many dimensions of Bharatanatyam, from its powerful rhythmic vocabulary and sculptural geometry to its ability to communicate emotion, poetry and devotion without words.
Ms. Sonali Mohanty
Representing the graceful and lyrical world of Odissi, Ms. Sonali Mohanty brings to the stage the distinctive beauty of one the oldest classical dance traditions in India.
The fluid torso movements, sculptural poses and expressive abhinaya of Odissi create a striking contract and complement to the geometry of Bharatnatyam. Through her artistry, Sonali brings the poetry of nature and the emotional landscape of the monsoon alive through movement.
Two traditions. One monsoon.
The meeting of Dr Srishti Budhori Sharma, Bharatanatyam and Ms Sonali Mohanty, Odissi is at the heart of Varsha, Dancing Rivers.
Rather than simply presenting two separate dance forms, the evening invites the audience to discover the similarities, contrasts and conversations between them - their rhythms, expressions, storytelling traditions and ways of interpreting nature and emotion.
The evening will be enriched through rhythm, abhinaya and storytelling. The artists will take the audience on a journey inspired by the rains, rivers and emotions they awaken.
