The Marathi language is not merely a medium of communication; it is an unbroken stream of culture, tradition, spirituality, folk life and knowledge. Following the Government of Maharashtra's decision to celebrate 3rd October as “Classical Marathi Language Honour Day” and the period from 3rd to 9th October as “Classical Marathi Language Honour Week,” an opportunity has emerged to celebrate the richness and glory of this classical language on a wider scale.
From the concept and creative direction of Vighnesh Joshi, a multi-talented artist, renowned anchor and a beloved personality from our own city of Thane, a unique and distinctive programme has been designed:
“Ovi to Abhangvani”
This programme is an artistic presentation of the musical, literary and cultural journey of the Marathi language. The journey begins with the traditional Ovis sung by women while grinding grain at home and moves through Bharud, Gavlan, Lavani, Powada, Abhangs from saint literature, devotional songs, and musical expressions of modern Marathi poetry.
Through excellent narration, soulful music and poetry, along with outstanding performances by renowned and popular singers and artists Niranjan Desai, Ketaki Bhave Joshi, Ketan Patwardhan and Shweta Thakur, and musicians Hanmant Rawde, Amey Thakurdesai, Jhankar Kanade and Siddharth Kadam, the audience will experience the true richness and grandeur of the Marathi language.
The rich heritage of Marathi will unfold before the audience through the works of Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Namdev, Sant Eknath, Sant Tukaram, Samarth Ramdas, Bahinabai, folk poets, as well as modern poets and composers.
This programme is not merely an entertainment event. It is an artistic endeavour to instil pride in the Marathi language and to carry forward its rich cultural identity to future generations.
