An Abhivaachan from the writings of Shama Bhate
Few artistes have reflected as deeply on the many dimensions of a life in dance as Shama Bhate. In her Marathi book Nrutyamaya Jag... Nartanaacha Dharma, she brings together memories, experiences and reflections from a life shaped by dance, revealing the artiste, teacher, choreographer and seeker behind the work.
This abhivaachan presents a selection of excerpts from the book, chosen and sequenced by Vandana Bokil, its editor, to create a cohesive, almost chronological journey through Bhate's life and relationship with dance.
Bokil and Gauri Lagoo will give voice to these passages, allowing the thoughts and questions within the book to unfold. Select video excerpts will be woven into the reading, bringing movement and lived experience into conversation with the written word.
