About The Event
The celebrated French trio brings together contemporary jazz, classical influences and pop-folk in compositions that are cinematic in character and intimate in expression.
Founded by pianist and composer Madeleine Cazenave, ‘Rouge’ features Sylvain Didou on double bass and Boris Louvet on drums and electronics. Guided by a search for simplicity, the trio creates melodic compositions that balance tenderness and melancholy with moments of intensity, leaving space for subtle shifts in mood and texture to evoke images and emotions.
Selected for the Jazz Migration programme in 2020, ‘Rouge’ has toured in France and internationally and is currently working on its third album. Cazenave’s musical influences range from Erik Satie and Maurice Ravel to Nina Simone, Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, reflecting her grounding in classical music and jazz. She has also composed and performed music for contemporary magic and theatre productions. Didou’s work spans improvised music, jazz and world music, with projects across several ensembles. Alongside Louvet, the musicians bring their varied experiences to a shared musical vision.
