About The Event
1977 classic Marathi musical-drama Jait Re Jait explores the life, traditions, and superstitions of the Thakar tribe in Maharashtra. The story centres on Nagya (Mohan Agashe), a tribal drummer and honey gatherer obsessed with attaining a state of spiritual purity, and Chindhi (Smita Patil), a fiercely independent woman who leaves her husband and falls in love with Nagya. The plot takes a dramatic turn when Nagya is brutally attacked and blinded in one eye by a queen bee while gathering wood in the forest. Consumed by pride and a desire for revenge, he makes it his absolute mission to climb a treacherous, steep mountain to destroy the beehives. Supported by Chindhi, Nagya successfully reaches the peak and exacts his revenge against the swarm; however, the retaliating bees attack Chindhi at the base of the mountain, leading to her tragic death. In the end, Nagya achieves a bitter victory—the literal meaning of the movie's title "Win-Win" (Jait Re Jait) becomes a painful paradox as he defeats the queen bee but ultimately loses his own queen in the process.
