About The Event
What are shadows made of? is a practical shadow-puppetry workshop where participants make, test and play with shadow puppets.
Each participant will learn to build a simple shadow puppet using paper, a single movable joint and translucent coloured materials. Through the process, we`ll explore how shapes can hold stories, what a single movement can convey, and how colour can live inside a shadow. We`ll cut, join, layer, test and play with the puppets against light, experimenting with movement, distance, scale and the awesome things a shadow can do.
The workshop introduces the basic making skills of shadow puppetry while leaving plenty of room for curiosity and figuring things out through the hands. And everyone makes a puppet to take home!
The workshop will be led by Debosmita Dam (she/they). Debosmita Dam is a puppeteer, filmmaker and arts educator whose practice explores how puppetry, materiality and play can open up ways of sensing, knowing-articulating and relating to the world.
