About the director
Arvind Gaur, Indian theatre director, known for his work in socially and politically relevant theatre. Arvind Gaur's plays are contemporary. Wider socio-political issues – communalism, casteism, feudalism, domestic violence, crimes of the state, power politics, violence, injustice, social-discrimination, gender and racism are major themes of his theatre.
Gaur is an actor trainer, social worker and a good story teller. He has also performed hundreds of street plays for people struggling for many social movements. Arvind Gaur was also awarded Junior Research Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1997-98. He was also visiting faculty at Delhi University for the Theatre in Education program for three years.
Arvind Gaur has participated in major theater festivals of India and abroad. He has also performed plays in many cities of America including Chicago, Boston, Washington, Harvard University, Houston, Los Angeles, Smithsonian Museum, Australia, Europe, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Armenia, France and Edinburgh Festival.
Prominent among his students are Kangana Ranaut, Deepak Dobriyal, Aishwarya Nidhi, Tilottama Shome, Manu Rishi Chadda, Bajrangbali Singh, Seema Azmi, Ishwak Singh, Susan Brar, Shakti Anand etc.
Leading actors Mallika Sarabhai, Piyush Mishra, Sonam Kapoor, Lushin Dubey, Ruth Sheard (British actress), Babbles Sabarwal have also worked with him.
He has organized drama workshops in various colleges, institutes, schools, universities. He also organizes drama workshops for children. Arvind has directed hundreds of street plays as well as more than hundreds stage plays on various social and political issues in three decades.
Arvind Gaur also designed the back stage and lighting system for the major plays of Padmashree Habib Tanveer's Naya Theatre, Agra Bazaar, Charandas Chor.
He also worked as a culture columnist in Navbharat Times newspaper for about four years and as a freelance journalist in national newspapers like Jansata and Hindustan. Gaur worked at the Press Trust of India (PTI-TV) for two years
'Nukkad Par Dastak' published by Vani Prakashan is his famous book. Four editions of this book written by Arvind Gaur have been published.
