About SOI
The Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), based at the NCPA Mumbai, is the country first and only professional orchestra. Founded in 2006 by Khushroo N Suntook and Music Director Marat Bisengaliev, the SOI has collaborated with leading conductors like Zubin Mehta, Carlo Rizzi and Charles Dutoit, and featured soloists such as Maria Joao Pires, Zakir Hussain and Angel Blue.
The orchestra has toured internationally to prestigious venues including the Tonhalle (Zurich), Victoria Hall (Geneva), the Royal Opera House (Muscat), and across the UK. Alongside the symphonic repertoire, it has staged landmark opera productions such as Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, and most recently Die Fledermaus in 2022 with the Hungarian State Opera.
At its core is the SOI Chamber Orchestra, which performs year-round in Mumbai and across India. Education is central to the SOI mission, through workshops, masterclasses, and the SOI Music Academy, which has trained young musicians who now study at leading conservatories worldwide and return to perform with the SOI.
