About The Event

STAGE LAB is a One-Day Practical Acting Workshop by Naatakwaale Theatre Company

DETAILS:

Have you always wanted to try acting but did not know where to begin?

Or have you already attended acting classes but still wonder: "What exactly should I work on to become a better actor?"

STAGE LAB is a 3-hour practical acting workshop designed to help you experience acting instead of just learning about it.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE WORKSHOP?

BREAK YOUR HESITATION- Acting becomes difficult when we are too conscious of ourselves. We will begin with simple theatre exercises and activities designed to help you open up, become comfortable and perform without constantly worrying about being judged.

LEARN ACTING BY DOING- You cannot learn acting only by listening to someone talk about it. During STAGE LAB, you will participate in practical exercises around: Body language, Expressions, Improvisations, Situations and Stage presence. Instead of simply explaining these concepts, we will help you experience them through performance.

ACT A SCENE- One of the main experiences of STAGE LAB will be scene work. You will get an opportunity to work with other participants and perform. The focus will not be on memorising difficult dialogues. Instead, you will understand what is actually happening between two actors in a scene.

What does your character want?

Who is the person standing opposite you?

Are you really listening?

Are you reacting naturally?

Or are you simply waiting to say your next dialogue?

These small questions can completely change a performance.

The purpose is not to tell you whether you are a good or bad actor. The purpose is to help you understand: What can I change to make my performance better?

GET PERSONAL ACTING FEEDBACK

Understand where you currently stand.

Every actor has different strengths and challenges. Some actors are expressive but do not listen. Some understand emotions but become conscious in front of people. Some have good presence but overact. Some have imagination but struggle to express it physically. During the workshop, you will receive practical feedback that can help you identify what you should work on next.

BONUS

30-Day Acting Roadmap- A practical plan to continue your acting practice after STAGE LAB.

2 Practice Scripts- Two scripts to rehearse and perform on your own.

Audition and Industry Guidance- Learn how to approach auditions, prepare yourself and avoid common beginner mistakes.

Acting and Theatre Reading List- Recommended books on acting and plays every aspiring actor should explore.

ABOUT THE TRAINER: DEBANSHU SHEKHAR

Theatre Director - Playwright - Acting Coach - Actor

Debanshu Shekhar is a theatre director, playwright, acting coach and actor with years of experience in theatre training and production. He is the Founder and Director of Naatakwaale Theatre Company and has worked extensively with actors from different backgrounds. He trained at Bharatendu Natya Akademi (BNA), Lucknow, and has been actively involved in theatre for many years as a director, writer, performer and trainer. His approach to acting training is strongly practical and performance-oriented. Instead of asking actors to simply follow instructions, his training focuses on helping them understand why a performance works, why it does not, and what they can practically change.

ABOUT NAATAKWAALE THEATRE COMPANY

Rated 4.9 stars on Google by 325+ reviewers, Naatakwaale Theatre Company is a Mumbai-based theatre company, founded in 2013 by Debanshu Shekhar, working across theatre productions, acting training, workshops and performance-based projects. Over the years, the company has built an extensive body of work:

1300+ Theatre Shows, 60+ Plays, 400+ Theatre and Acting Workshops, 1200+ Actors Trained, 120+ Performance Venues.

Naatakwaale believes that acting cannot be learnt only through theory. An actor needs to train, rehearse, perform, receive feedback, make mistakes, try again and eventually face an audience. That philosophy is at the heart of STAGE LAB.

WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE WITH?

Not a promise that you will become an actor in three hours. Something more useful:

A real acting experience.

You will have performed.

You will have been directed.

You will have received feedback.

You will understand some of your strengths.

You will know what you need to work on.

You will have a clearer idea of what to do next.

Come as you are. Leave with clarity, confidence and direction.
