About The Event
"The Book of Queens" (Malekeh nâmeh) brings together legendary women's voices from Europe, India and Iran: warriors, mystics, saints and poets across centuries, singing of love in all its forms — carnal, sacred, forbidden, sacrificial.
Led by Persian-speaking opera singer Camille Bordet, this rare three-culture collaboration unites musicians from Iran, India and Europe in a single work of improvisation and original composition, with voices and instruments that have never shared a stage before now.
Featuring Hamin Honari (tombak, daf), Madeleine Owen (Romantic Guitar), Saeed Kamjoo (kamanche), Maryam Tazhdeh (tar), Hindustani vocalist Smita Bellur, and Rajasthan's own Kode Khan Manganiyar on kamaicha.
Co-commissioned and co-produced by Jodhpur RIFF as a tribute to the women of Rajasthan and Marwar's history.
