Mali was Carnatic music’s rockstar flautist, who transformed the instrument, bringing it from the margins to the headlines. His music was everything. Deep. Whimsical. Classical. Post-modern.
From trance-like looping raga passages, blistering phrases, mind-bending music math to those silences (awkward, contemplative), from traditional repertoire to folk tunes that punctuated his concerts, come discover the genius of Mali in his centenary year.
Swaroop Mami, a student of the legendary N. Ramani (who was Mali’s disciple), brings the Mali experience to you. Swaroop is a flautist who has spent more than two decades on stage. Apart from Carnatic music, he also explores jazz, rock and blues on the bamboo flute. Swaroop will perform some signature Mali pieces and guide the audience through unique recordings.
Swaroop will be accompanied by M Vijay on the violin and by Anirudh Athreya on the kanjira.
