About The Event
Discover a five-piece ensemble led by double bassist and composer Thomas Julienne, where jazz meets North African influences, post-rock and neo-classical textures in an adventurous musical dialogue.
Drawing on a rich European heritage and a culture of exchange, 'Theorem of Joy' unfolds like a cinematic sequence, conjuring images, words and shifting emotional landscapes. Its compositions move between introspection and expansive passages, creating a poetic world that invites listeners to imagine their own stories.
Julienne’s Algerian, Norman and Indo-Vietnamese roots inform an eclectic practice spanning experimental rock, jazz, classical music and free improvisation. Vocalist Laura Kipp combines her jazz training in Germany and France with experience performing alongside leading jazz musicians such as Quincy Jones, George Benson, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Jacob Collier. Her songwriting is inspired by poetry and a love of languages.
Violinist Robin Antunes explores new timbres through effects and a practice spanning jazz, French pop, African and Caribbean music. Drummer Tom Peyron draws on the playing of American jazz greats such as Tony Williams and Elvin Jones, alongside the beats of J Dilla and The Roots. Guitarist and composer Anthony Winzenrith brings a similarly eclectic perspective, with projects spanning Brazilian jazz and electro-pop.
Together, the five musicians create a dynamic interplay of melody, rhythm and texture, balancing rhythmic energy with moments of reflection.
