About The Event
Kathika is delighted to host a special Baithak celebrating the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, bringing together conversation, reflection and a hands-on engagement with one of the most enduring symbols of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy, the Charkha.
The Baithak will feature an engaging conversation with Ms. Biba Sobti and Mr. A. Annamalai, Director of the National Gandhi Museum, exploring the relevance of Gandhi's ideas and legacy in contemporary times. Through an intimate and thoughtful discussion, the session will reflect upon the values that shaped Gandhi's life and continue to inspire generations, simplicity, self-reliance, dignity of labour and the power of individual action.
The conversation will be followed by a Charkha spinning session, offering participants an opportunity to engage directly with the practice that became a powerful symbol of India's freedom movement and Gandhi's vision of Swadeshi and self-sufficiency. Beyond its political significance, the Charkha represented a deeper philosophy, of patience, mindfulness, self-reliance and a connection with the labour and processes behind everyday life.
Through this Baithak, Kathika invites participants to pause and reflect on Gandhi's enduring legacy, not merely as a chapter in history, but as a set of ideas that continue to hold meaning in our rapidly changing world.
The evening will conclude with High Tea, providing an opportunity for participants to continue the conversation in the warm and intimate setting of Kathika.
