SYNOPSIS

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper).
DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that is as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving`s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

American Hustle will appeal to those who like their humour, as con artist Irving Rosenfeld (Bale) puts it, `not black and white, but extremely grey.` Full of fraudsters, politicos, liars and cheats, American Hustle is a cheeky tribute to American life, sticking its tongue out deliciously at all its loving lies. Irving and Sidney (Adams) are partners in crime, passionate about money and each other. But Irving can`t leave his son and sexy, crazy wife Rosalyn (Lawrence, playing the dumb blonde to nail-polished perfection). After a string of quirky edgy comedy drama hits like Flirting With Disaster and Three Kings, David O Russell underwent a career dip. I Heart Huckabees was still critically well-received, but was nowhere near the cult status of his earlier movies. `Jennifer Lawrence plays the loony wife with absolutely immaculate comic timing, and lovely expressions, says Raja Sen about American Hustle. I feel like writing this review in slow-mo. In emphatically big hammer-thuds of the keyboard, shot beautifully and kinetically, while lurid but lovely songs play, on the nose with every changing paragraph and leaving nothing to subtlety.
