Debakanya
About the movie
In the coastal villages near Puri, the Kaibarta community celebrates the Chaiti Ghoda dance in honour of the goddesses Mangala and Baseli. Shiba inherits the sacred role of Chadheiani from his father, and from childhood, the dance becomes an inseparable part of his life, stirring feelings of femininity he cannot escape.
When his devotion to the stage clashes with tradition and his marriage to Rama, Shiba is forced to give up the dance he loves. Betrayed by his wife and her childhood friend Jaggu, he is driven to despair. His mentor, Maku Baral, brings him back to Puri to perform, but a cruel act awakens an unexpected fury. Debakanya is a stirring story of identity, devotion, and the dance that defines Shiba's life.
